Research: I head a project called Lifetimes of Epidemics in Europe and the Middle East (financed by the Research Council Norway), where we work on the temporality of epidemics. So far, much of this has been at the temporalities involved in epidemics outbreaks. My own work is mostly on institution-building and the political legitimacy of public health initiatives over the longer term. As an Ottomanist and Turkish philologist I work primarily on the Ottoman/Turkish case, and some of the work I have done so far have been on Turkish vaccination campaigns and resistance to these.
