Research: Currently: measles and smallpox abord migrant vessels in post-abolition plantation labour mobilities. Previously: AIDS; syphilis/STIs; epidemics in colonial settings -- smallpox, cholera, leprosy, etc. In general: the subjective and collective experience of epidemics; political responses; power & knowledge; containment and confinement; racialization and profiling in epidemic contexts.
Currently leading the project 'The Colour of Labour – the racialized lives of migrants', supported by the European Research Council Advanced Grant # 695573.
