Research: Second Plague Pandemic, smallpox, metrics and systems of records; particularly the processes by which social, political, and scientific communities arrive at a consensus about what is worth measuring, how best to measure and validate measurements, and how to organize information for us and sharing. At the moment I am most interested in the emergence of the concept of risk as quantifiable.
